“The Gold Trade (License Fees) Notice 1987, published in Rhodesia Government Notice 256 of 1978 is amended by the repeal of paragraph 1 of Schedule 2 and the substitution of Gold dealing License $200 000,” reads a Statutory Instrument published by the finance minister Mthuli Ncube.
The old fee was not stated.
New Zimbabwe.com quoted unnamed government sources as saying that the move was meant to benefit the lower levels of society not benefiting from gold trading.
Zimbabwe gold miners produced 35 280kg in 2022 compared to 29 664kg in 2021.
