Gem cutting as art

27 march 2023
A significant event was held in the Gokhran of Russia - an author's meeting with the famous cutter Viktor Tuzlukov - with the participation of the Gokhran head Andrey Yurin, jewelry industry experts, students of specialized specialties from the capital's universities and colleges: D. Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia, S. Ordzhonikidze Geological Prospecting University, K. Faberge College and others.
As part of the event, an exhibition of a new collection of stones in the artistic cut "World Heritage" was held, as well as an author's lecture on the work of a colored stone cutter, in particular on the standards and criteria for assessing quality, the features of recutting, cutters' competitions and the difference between craft and art.
Viktor Tuzlukov told the participants of the meeting about his experience in creating stones with artistic images in the drawing of faces, about the idea of the emergence and creation of a collection that took 4 years.
The World Heritage collection consists of 12 stones - natural and synthetic, of different colors and shapes, unique in meaning and artistic design.  Each copy is an art object made in the aesthetics of cultural artifacts from around the world - Russia, China, Japan, Persia, Tibet, Italy, France, Spain, etc.  So, the stone "Faces of Perfection" symbolizes Japan and sings the beauty of cherry blossoms.  The blue stone, representing Ancient Greece, recreates the image of the sea element and emphasizes its importance in Greek culture. Lilac cubic zirkonia creates the effect of stained-glass windows in the "rose" windows of Notre Dame Cathedral - in the stone of France. The stone symbolizing Russia is called the "Great Heart" - it is a colorless beryl-goshenite weighing 112 carats, having 364 facets.
Viktor Tuzlukov presented this stone from the World Heritage collection as a gift to the Gokhran of Russia.
Victor Tuzlukov is a recognized master in the art cutting, winner of international competitions, including the World Championship in Australia in 2010; a jury member of the international professional competition for jewelry design and cutting in Hong Kong, winner of the jewelry competition of the Gokhran of Russia in 2022 “Russia.  21st Century” in the nomination “Skill of Artistic Cutting”.
His collections and individual specimens have been exhibited over the years at the Louvre, the Vatican Museum, the Smithsonian Institution and the Los Angeles Museum of Natural History. One of his works - Fragility of the Eternal - is marked in the Guinness Book of Records.
The format of the author's meetings will be continued: Gokhran plans to implement a research and education program as part of the support for the jewelry industry.
