The Eternal Pink, a rare diamond that De Beers found at the Damtshaa mine in Botswana, is anticipated to sell for more than $35 million at a Sotheby's auction on June 8 in New York.
The 10.57-carat diamond will be displayed in Hong Kong next week and later in Dubai, Singapore, Shanghai, Taiwan, and Geneva.
Bloomberg reports that experts have praised the cushion-cut diamond's "glowing" appearance and declared it to have the best possible colour quality, which is "fancy vivid."
The stone has the highest clarity rating of "internally faultless," which means that no flaws are discernible at magnifications smaller than 10x magnification.
The Eternal Pink has the potential to break the record set by The Williamson Pink Star, which was sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong in 2022 for $ 5.2 million per carat, with an estimated price per carat of $3.3 million.
The top five diamonds ever sold at auction, in order of value, include three pink diamonds.
Since the closing of the Argyle mine in Australia, which was the primary source of the stones, they have grown scarcer.
Pink diamonds are the rarest of all coloured diamonds, accounting for less than 3% of all diamonds submitted to the Gemological Institute of America.
