Diamond officer Ravi Patel said that the application for the GI tag was made on June 7. "The GI or Geographical Indication tag is mainly given to link a product to its region of origin. The object that receives this tag states its characteristic."
An application was made by the Human Welfare Society Lucknow to the Chennai-based institution to get the GI tag for the emerald diamonds.
This organization, working under the Ministry of Commerce of India, gives the GI tag after thorough investigation and scrutiny. Panna district has been known for its precious diamonds for centuries.
This is the reason why Panna is also known as Diamond City. Getting the GI tag will increase the brightness of emerald diamonds internationally. This will also benefit individuals associated with the diamond trade of Panna.
