Anglo American unit, Kumba Iron Ore has appointed Mary Bomela as a lead independent non-executive director with effect from July 1, 2023. She joined the Kumba Board as an independent non-executive director in December 2017.

Kumba is a leading supplier of high-quality iron ore to the global steel industry. It produces iron ore in South Africa at the Sishen and Kolomela mines in the Northern Cape Province. Kumba exports iron ore to China, Japan, South Korea, and several countries in Europe and the Middle East.

Kumba delivered a solid production performance with volumes increasing by 14% to 9.4 million tonnes in the first quarter of 2023, largely driven by a strong recovery from the Kolomela mine.

Sales volumes were maintained at 9.5 million tonnes.
