Russia's Federation Council welcomes progress in Norilsk renovation and Nornickel's environmental programs

Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Nikolai Zhuravlev visited Norilsk, where he inspected social infrastructure construction sites.

He said that new apartment buildings are being built in Norilsk, and work is underway to improve the territories, dismantle unused workshops, and overhaul the engineering infrastructure.

In accordance with the plan of social and economic development of the municipality of Norilsk, a new clinic, a school and kindergartens will appear in the city.

The senator visited the construction site of a multidisciplinary innovative educational complex for 1,100 children, as well as the site where the City of Labor Valor stele will be erected. He also inspected the reconstruction works of the building that is going to accommodate Bashnya, the all-season public space.

The parliamentarian visited the Nadezhda metallurgical plant of Norilsk Nickel, where he got acquainted with the progress of the Sulfur Project. By 2025, the environmental program should reduce sulfur dioxide emissions by 90%, he said.

“The work is progressing, as was discussed with the regional authorities and the leadership of the city-forming enterprise [Nornickel]. It includes ramping up construction of social facilities that the residents of the city are waiting for,” said Zhuravlev.
