Mr Kirtilal K. Doshi, the Former Chairman of the Gem & Jewellery Promotion Council (GJEPC), Founding Chairman of the Gemmological Institute of India (GII), and a visionary leader of the Indian gem and jewellery industry, passed away peacefully in Mumbai on 20th November, 2023 at the age of 101, as announced by the GJEPC.

Mr Doshi was a man of many achievements and contributions to the growth and development of the Indian gem trade. He was the Chairman of the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) from 1970 to 1971, during which time he played a key role in the establishment of GII, the first gemmological institute in the country. He was also instrumental in founding several other industry bodies, such as the Precious Stone Importers Association, Diamond Exporters Association Ltd. and Bharat Diamond Bourse.
