22 november 2023

Petra Diamonds has appointed Varda Shine, a senior independent director, as its interim chairperson following the retirement of Peter Hill.

Hill has served as the company's chairperson since March 2020.

Shine, according to Petra, will head the hunt for a permanent chairperson as well as chair the nomination and investment committees.

During this interim period, she will also continue to serve as the head of the pay committee.

"I would like to thank Peter for his service to Petra Diamonds as its chair and look forward to working with my fellow directors to ensure a smooth transition and continuation of Petra's robust Governance framework until a permanent replacement is sought," said Shine.

She worked with De Beers for 30 years, culminating in her appointment as CEO of De Beers Trading Company, a $6 billion midstream organisation.
