Merafe says its attributable ferrochrome output from the Glencore Merafe Chrome Venture decreased from 97,000 t in the fourth quarter of 2022 to 75,000 t in the fourth quarter ended December 31.
The decline in quarterly output led to a year-on-year reduction of production by 22% to 300,000 t for the entire year of 2023, compared to 384,000 t in 2022.
It said that the output decline was due to a planned cut in production in response to the prevailing market conditions.
Merafe said only the Lion smelter operated throughout the three-month winter season, characterised by high electricity consumption.
