Norilsk Nickel invests into flat rolled steel production

09 january 2024

Norilsk Nickel became one of the participants of RNK-Holding LLC, part of the Russian Stainless Steel Company, which is implementing a project for the production of flat rolled stainless steel.

Norilsk Nickel intends use this opportunity to significantly increase nickel sales on the domestic market, as well as enter the market of advanced steel and alloy processing in the country.

A new steel rolling mill for stainless steel and corrosion-resistant, heat-resistant and heat-stable alloys is being built in the Volgograd region. The capacity of the new plant is up to 500,000 tons of finished products per year. Commissioning of the first phase of the project will begin in 2025.

The complex will feature modern equipment. It will meet the highest environmental protection requirements: the technological solutions used are designed to eliminate negative impacts on the environment in the region. The implementation of the project will create up to 2,500 jobs.

For Norilsk Nickel, participation in the new project is in line with its strategy to expand nickel sales markets, as well as investments in the development of processing capabilities in Russia.
