AngloGold Ashanti chairperson and independent non-executive director, Maria Ramos, has elected not to stand for re-election at the upcoming annual general meeting(AGM) of shareholders on 28 May 2024.
The board of directors has voted unanimously to appoint Jochen Tilk as the new chairperson, subject to his re-election at the AGM.
Tilk the former president and chief executive of Potash, a large producer of crop nutrients and Inmet Mining, a global mining company.
Ramos served as director of AngloGold Ashanti since 1 June 2019 and chairperson since 5 December 2020.
“We are grateful for Maria’s enormous contribution to AngloGold Ashanti during her tenure as [chairperson],” said company chief executive Alberto Calderon.
“She has exemplified the highest levels of ethics, governance and strategic guidance while being a great support to me in my role. We wish her the very best and every success in her new endeavours.”
During her tenure AngloGold Ashanti made strides in advancing its strategy and delivering on its objectives, through a new talented and effective leadership team, said the company’s lead independent director Rhidwaan Gasant.
