Capital works at the Mayskaya kimberlite pipe to be completed this year - ALROSA

20 march 2024

The press service of the Russian diamond mining company ALROSA reported that capital mining work at the Mayskaya kimberlite pipe in the Republic of Yakutia will be completed by the end of 2024.

“Today, capital mining work is underway at the Nakyn deposit: BelAZ trucks are removing about 32,000 cubic meters of rock mass around the clock,” the company noted. “In total, 12 million cubic meters of rock mass will be removed during the preparation for mining.”

The Mayskaya pipe was discovered in 2006 in the Nyurba region of Yakutia. Geological exploration was completed in 2015, and capital work on the deposit began in 2020.

The company plans to extract about 300,000 tons of ore and produce about 1 million carats of diamonds annually during the 15 years of the project's mine life.

ALROSA also plans to upgrade equipment at the Jubilee pipe and resume mining operations at the Zarya pipe, both a part of the Aikhal mining and processing plant. This will allow the company to produce 7.5 million carats of diamonds.
