Tharisa produces 35.3k oz of 6E PGMs in Q2 FY 2024

11 april 2024

Tharisa Mining produced 35 300 ounces (oz) of 6E platinum group metals (PGMs) in the second quarter of the fiscal year 2024 compared to 34 300 oz recorded a year earlier.

However, the second quarter output dropped 1.1% on a quarter-on-quarter compared with 35 700 oz produced in the first quarter of FY 2024.

It said chrome output was 402 700 tonnes (t) during the period under consideration lower than the previous quarter's record production of 462 800 t.

Tharisa said production guidance for FY2024 remains between 145 000 oz and 155 000 oz PGMs (6E basis) and 1.7 million t to 1.8 million t of chrome concentrates.

“Operationally we performed well, building on a record first quarter and on track to meet guidance,” said company chief executive Phoevos Pouroulis.

“We continue to drive improvement in recoveries and efficiencies which is highly sensitive to the variability and oxidisation of the feed into our processing plants.”

He said the development of the Karo Platinum Project in Zimbabwe continued with smaller work packages aligned to capital availability, focusing on civil and infrastructure development, as they progress on the road to procure the necessary third-party financing to deliver the first phase into production.
