ALROSA commissions new plant for diamond ore study in Yakutia

25 april 2024

ALROSA held an opening ceremony of the processing plant for the Vilyui geological exploration team in Mirny, Yakutia Republic, in the presence of the head of the region Aisen Nikolaev and the CEO of the company Pavel Marinychev.

As ALROSA noted, investments in the project which began construction in 2018 amounted to 385 million rubles. With help of the new complex’s equipment, geologists will examine core samples and rock samples from kimberlite and placer diamond deposits. This is necessary to determine the direction of further exploration for deposits with high diamond content. The processing capacity of the complex is up to 2 tons of samples per shift.

The new complex united the three separate technological lines for geological study that existed at ALROSA’s beneficiation plants in Mirny, Aikhal and Nakyn. It includes dedicated lines for processing diamond ores, kimberlites and sands of diamond placers.

“The production lines take into account the best global practices and technologies. Traditional beneficiation methods that have proven their worth will be preserved, and new methods introduced in recent years will be used, which can significantly increase the safety of rough diamonds and reduce the cost of the beneficiation process by a large margin,” said Marinychev.
