World Jewelry Congress to take place in Shanghai on November 2-4

23 may 2024

The World Jewelry Confederation (CIBJO) will hold its annual congress in Shanghai (China) on November 2-4. Preliminary meetings are scheduled for October 31 and November 1.

The 2024 Congress will take place at the Shangri-La Qiantan convention centre, in the heart of Shanghai’s New Bund International Business District in Pudong. It is being hosted by the Donghao Lansheng Group and the China Gems & Jade Exchange.

The Congress serves as the official meeting place for delegates and assembled CIBJO sectoral commissions, where amendments can be introduced to the organization’s definitive directories of international industry standards for diamonds, coloured stones, pearls, lab gems, precious metals, etc. In addition, the CIBJO Congress will highlight the programs of the World Jewelry Confederation Educational Foundation (WJCEF), as well as CIBJO's cooperation with the UN Development Program.

As the gateway to the world’s largest jewellery market, estimated to be worth $141 billion in 2023, Shanghai with it 25 million residents is an industrial, commercial and financial centre. It is the official gateway to China for jewellery items and jewellery components, serving as headquarters of the Diamond Administration Centre of China (DAC) and the Shanghai Diamond Exchange, the Shanghai Gold Exchange (SGE) and the Shanghai Gems & Jade Exchange.

“Significantly, this is the first CIBJO Congress to be taking place on the Chinese mainland, and it promises to be a spectacular event, which will not only underscore the development and growth of the jewellery industry in this country and region of the world, but the way in which it is impacting on the business worldwide,” said CIBJO President Gaetano Cavalieri.

“It will be a most important congress, taking place at what clearly is a transformative time in our history. I hope that as many delegates as possible will be able to join us in Shanghai.”

A special website for the CIBJO-2024 Congress will be launched shortly.
