Indian jewelers visit Latin America to forge partnerships and boost exports

31 may 2024

A delegation from Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) led by GJEPC Vice Chairman Kirit Bhansali visited Latin America from May 21-29.

The main objective of the meetings in Brazil, Colombia and Panama was to explore markets to boost India's exports in the Latin America and Caribbean region. During the visit, Indian jewelers had an opportunity to assess market needs and requirements, identify business opportunities for the gem and jewelry sector, and interact with industry associations and leading companies.

In Colombia, the delegation met with the Indian Ambassador to Colombia to discuss expanding trade relations and promoting Indian jewelry in the Colombian market. GJEPC representatives toured the local jewelry market to get an insight into the latest trends and consumer preferences in Colombia. As noted during the trip, the visit highlighted “the potential of Indian jewelers to meet the growing demand for high quality and diverse jewelry products in the region.” Understanding Colombia's import and export policies, the delegates sought to promote the country's participation in the Indian International Jewelry Show (IIJS) and upcoming buyer-seller meetings.

Similar objectives were set for negotiations in San Paolo, Rio de Janeiro and Panama City. The delegation held meetings with the Indian Embassy in Brazil and major retailers such as H Stern. Other companies represented at the business networking evening were Monte Cristo, Vivara, VQ Jewellery and Villar Joias.

Brazil also hosted Ecio Morais, director of IBGM, organizer of the popular jewelry show Feninjer. The discussion centered on the prospects of creating a dedicated pavilion in India for exhibitors selling loose stones.

The team held talks with the Monte Carlo Group, the second largest jewelry store chain in Brazil, exploring collaboration opportunities to strengthen business ties between the two countries. In addition, a meeting with the CEO of SAUER Group, a reputed name in the Brazilian jewelry sector, focusing on potential partnerships and market expansion strategies. Representatives of the well-known jewelry group ESMEBRAS also took part in the discussions. The delegation's commitment to building strong bilateral trade relations in the jewelry industry was noted.
