AGD Diamonds names special diamond in honor of Arkhangelsk’s 440th anniversary

28 june 2024

AGD Diamonds JSC has named its first special-sized diamond of 2024, a 54.27-carat stone, in honor of the 440th anniversary of the city of Arkhangelsk.

To commemorate the event, AGD’s CEO Mikhail Bakov presented the city governor Dmitry Morev with a replica of the diamond which was named “440 years of Arkhangelsk”. The company, according to an established tradition, names diamonds of special sizes in honor of significant events and prominent northerners.

“Our company is a resident of the Arkhangelsk region, Arkhangelsk is our hometown, and when the first unique diamond was mined this year, no one doubted that its name should be associated with the glorious anniversary of the city,” said Bakov.

The head of Arkhangelsk noted: “AGD Diamonds is our long-time reliable partner. We are grateful to the company for its assistance in many projects that are vital for northerners. And today’s gift is valuable primarily because it is a sign of the general history of the city and the brilliant diamond mining enterprise.”

AGD Diamonds is the only diamond miner in Russia independent of ALROSA and accounts for about 10% of the country’s diamond production. The Vladimir Grib diamond deposit developed by AGD is the fourth in Russia and the eighth in the world in terms of diamond reserves. Reserve estimate was approved in 2010 in the amount of 76 million tons of ore.

The life cycle of the open pit mine is estimated at more than ten years.
