Atlantic Lithium says a member of its workforce died on Monday in an incident whilst working at its Ewoyaa Lithium Project site in Mankessim, in Ghana's Central Region.
It said in a statement that site activities have been suspended.
“The appropriate authorities have been notified and an investigation is underway to establish the circumstances that led to the incident, with senior executive leadership on site to support this process,” said Atlantic.
“The company commits to implementing relevant learnings from the investigation into [its] health and safety protocols and practices thereafter.”
The Ewoyaa Lithium Project is set to become Ghana's first lithium-producing mine.
A definitive feasibility study for the project indicates the production of 3.6 Mt of spodumene concentrate over a 12-year mine life, making it one of the largest spodumene concentrate mines in the world.
The project awarded a mining lease in October 2023, is being developed under an earn-in agreement with Piedmont Lithium.
