Nornickel to test domestic software for mining automation

19 july 2024

Norilsk Nickel, together with its partners, is developing domestic software for mining automation to begin the implementation of the system in 2026.

According to RIA Novosti citing Alexey Parasyna, Nornickel’s director for industrial automation and metrology at IT department, the company is finalizing the functionality of the new system this year, and next year it intends to begin real-life tests. The implementation will be carried throughout 2026, Parasyn said on the sidelines of the Innoprom-2024 forum.

At the moment, Nornickel’s subsidiary Norsoft, together with partners Reksoft and Atollis, is developing three domestic digital solutions to optimize and automate its mining operations, namely Magma Geo, Magma Plan and Magma Control. So far, these systems are Nornickel’s first foray into the replacement of foreign digital solutions through Russian Industrial Competence Centers (ICC).

Parasyna noted that state support in the form of tax breaks and partial compensations serve as a good incentive for both developers and companies choosing domestic digital solutions.

Nornickel’s investments in metallurgical and ecological projects for ICC will amount to about 4.5 billion rubles.
