Indian firm produces 8-carat LGD as tribute to PM Modi

24 july 2024

Modi_diamond_2024.jpgCompany from Surat specializing in lab-grown diamonds (LGD) created an 8-carat diamond dedicated to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The stone, bearing an engraved portrait of Modi, became the tribute to the country's leader who was re-elected to a new term in May. Industry officials say Modi and his cabinet have always supported the LGD industry, adding that man-made diamonds are "equivalent to natural." Indians remember how Modi presented a 7.5-carat lab-grown diamond to the US first Lady Jill Biden during his visit to America last year.

The Modi Diamond is cut from a 40-carat rough stone. It took 20 craftsmen to carry out the work, which took a month. The stone was showcased at the Surat Diamond Association exhibition last week.

“We thought that this diamond is eco-friendly, so, going by PM Modi's vision, we decided to dedicate this diamond to him,” said manufacturing S.K. Diam company spokesperson.

Lab-grown diamonds are increasingly recognized for their affordability and ethical production methods, experts say. Manufactured under controlled conditions that simulate natural diamond growth processes involving high pressure and temperatures, these gems offer a sustainable choice for consumers and align with global environmental concerns.
