Deputy Speaker of Russia’s Federation Council notes metallurgical sector achievements

24 july 2024

During a trip to Krasnoyarsk Region, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Nikolai Zhuravlev noted the historical and current achievements of the region's industry, in particular, the metallurgical sector.

According to him, Russia became the world’s leader in the production of high-grade nickel, took second place in the production of aluminum, and third in the titanium products output last year.

Talking about the historical achievements of Norilsk during the opening ceremony of the stele "Norilsk - City of Labor Valor", he also touched upon the current successes of regional enterprises.

Zhuravlev highly praised the current work of Norilsk Nickel to implement ambitious tasks. This concerns both the expansion of production capacity and the company's participation in the implementation of the Comprehensive Plan for the Socioeconomic Development of Norilsk until 2035.

"It is very important that funds from all three levels of the budget and Norilsk Nickel are invested in the development of the city. We see the resettlement of dilapidated housing, it is gratifying that new housing is being built. The construction of social facilities is under special control: a clinic, a kindergarten, a school. And here I would like to especially note the close cooperation of the city, the company and the regional authorities in the implementation of the Norilsk development plan. Because without this it is difficult to achieve the set goals," he said.

The senator also noted the significant improvement in the environmental situation in Norilsk due to the implementation of the "Sulfur Program" by Nornickel. By 2025, it should ensure a 90% reduction in sulfur dioxide emissions.
