SOKOLOV brand proposes naming new official jewelry capital of Russia

31 july 2024

The owners of the SOKOLOV jewelry brand appealed to the head of the Russian government Mikhail Mishustin with a proposal to establish the title "Jewelry Capital of Russia" and assign it to the village of Krasnoe-on-Volga.

The letter which lenta.ru got access to, comes from Alexander Egorov, CEO of the Sokolov Family Charitable Foundation for the Development of Social Initiatives in the Kostroma Region, to the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation.

In his address, Egorov noted that the history of jewelry in Krasnоe-on-Volga dates back many centuries. On its territory there is the only Krasnoselsky School of artistic metalworking in the country, which has been training skilled jewelers for many years.

There are more than 20 jewelry factories in the village, including the SOKOLOV production site, where thousands of employees work, but most Russians do not even know its name.

The authors of the initiative also asked Mishustin to grant the status of a federal cultural heritage site to the Krasnoselsky School of Artistic Processing. The school itself houses a unique museum of jewelry, decorative and applied arts.

"This will not only allow us to appreciate the importance of Krasnoe-on-Volga and the work of its inhabitants for the development of domestic jewelry, but also make the region more promising for domestic and foreign tourism, investment and social projects," Egorov's letter says.
