ALROSA names special diamonds in honor of outstanding Yakutians

04 september 2024

At the end of August, the Russian diamond mining company ALROSA named four large special diamonds in honor of outstanding residents of Yakutia.

For example, a 76.19-carat diamond mined on October 28, 2023 at the Jubilee pipe, was named after Albina Goldman, a Knight of the A.S. Makarenko Order. She played an outstanding role in the creation, formation and development of the leading educational center of Western Yakutia - the Mirny Polytechnic Institute of the North-Eastern Federal University.

Another diamond weighing 63 carats, mined on May 19, 2024 at the Udachny Mining and Processing Plant, was named after Nina Chigireva, an outstanding Yakutian opera singer, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, who actively popularized opera art in the republic to form a high musical culture, the ALROSA press service reports.

Another diamond weighing 76.15 carats, which was obtained at the Nakyn ore field on March 14 this year, was named after Professor Ivan Egorov. He is the founder of new areas of expertise related to materials science, processing of precious stones and metals, and made a significant contribution to the professional training of qualified specialists in precious stones cutting and jewelry sectors in Yakutia.

Finally, the 73.16-carat diamond mined on March 14, 2024 at the Nakyn ore field, was named after Innokenty Tarbakhov, a famous chef of the republic, who devoted his life to collecting and studying the culinary traditions of the northern peoples, and was engaged in creative processing and popularization of these traditions.

The habit of naming special diamonds in honor of outstanding Yakutians was established in 1959 to perpetuate the merits of the republic's residents and emphasize their contribution to the development of the region.
