At the end of August, ALROSA’s subsidiary Anabar Diamonds mined a large gem-quality diamond weighing 262.5 carats at the Ebelyakh deposit of the Mayat mine in the Republic of Yakutia.

The stone is a transparent single crystal with single graphite-sulfide inclusions and weak ferrugination. It has a characteristic shape intrinsic to diamonds of the Ebelyakh deposit. The diamond is currently being sent for expert evaluation of its morphological characteristics.

This is the second particularly large diamond found in Russia in less than a year. On September 10, 2023, a crystal weighing 390.7 carats was unearthed at the same Ebelyakh deposit. It became the largest gem-quality diamond produced in Russia in the last 10 years.

"The Ebelyakh alluvial diamond deposit is famous for its exceptionally rare colored and large diamonds that have gained worldwide fame. In 2017, the most expensive diamond in the history of Russia was mined here - a 27.85-carat pure pink crystal, from which the "Phantom of the Rose" diamond was subsequently cut," said ALROSA CEO Pavel Marinychev.

"The discovery of another record-breaking diamond at the same diamond deposit in less than a year is a rare occurrence and, undoubtedly, a great success for the Russian diamond mining industry."
