Bangkok Gem & Jewellery Fair reaches $100 Million in orders, elevates Thailand’s status as a global jewellery trade hub

01 october 2024

The Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) and the Gem & Jewellery Institute of Thailand (GIT) announced the results of the 70th Bangkok Gem & Jewellery Fair, which was held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre from September 9-13, 2024.

The fair exceeded expectations with total orders reaching $100 million, around 40,000 participants from around the world, and over 1,100 exhibitors from both domestic and international markets occupying 2,470 booths from 20 countries. Next year, the organisers promise to hold an even bigger event, expanding the exhibition space by over 100 additional booths. According to DITP, the number of exhibitors was 6.11% higher than last year, with two-thirds of them being international visitors. The top five countries were India, Myanmar, China, Sri Lanka and Japan.

The top five product categories with the highest purchase orders were gemstones, silver jewellery, diamonds, gold jewellery and jewellery respectively.

According to DITP CEO Phusit Ratanakul Sereroengrit, the success of the 70th edition “clearly demonstrates the global business community’s confidence in Thailand as a key hub for the global gem and jewellery trade.”

“Bangkok Gems is the oldest gem and jewellery trade fair in Thailand and ranks among the top four in the world,” said GIT CEO Sumed Prasongphongchai. “Thailand’s prominence as a key global centre for coloured gemstones, combined with the quality and craftsmanship of its jewellery, makes Bangkok Gems fair a must-visit for buyers and businessmen worldwide.” The 71st Bangkok Gems and Jewellery Fair will be held from 22 to 26 February 2025.
