Patriot Lithium exploring new Zambian copper opportunities

15 october 2024

Patriot Lithium, a battery metals explorer, is broadening its scope by exploring Africa in search of copper resources that could enhance its portfolio.

The Australian company had been exploring for lithium in North America for more than two years, resulting in the discovery at the Gorman lithium project.

However, it forced to cancel its maiden drilling programme at the Gorman lithium project due to a last minute decision from a First Nation Band to refuse land access.

Patriot said it continues to negotiate land access.

The company said it is now focused on the Katwaro copper project in Zambia.

It entered into a binding option agreement with Array Metals and Natural Resources pursuant to which it has the option to acquire an 80% interest in the copper project.

“Copper, like lithium, is an essential ingredient in the battery metals complex and for many other industrial uses,” said Patriot executive chairperson Hugh Warner.

Zambia is host to a significant share of the global copper resource.

It is an established mining jurisdiction, with a history of supporting mineral exploration, mining and product export.
