On the eve of the Moscow Financial Forum, the Alrosa Diamond Exclusive (ADE) team discussed the topic of attracting investment in diamonds with experts from the financial, media and blogosphere.
The ADE team presented an annual analytical review of the diamond market to the expert community and the press and spoke about the trends in this segment.
Diamonds weighing 3 carats and more account for up to 2% of the total production volume and up to 25% of the sales value of all diamonds. According to ADE, which monitors the dynamics of investment diamond prices, their ruble-denominated prices rose by 30% since 2022.
Russian investors prefer to buy classic round polished diamonds.
As noted by ADE program manager Elena Sukhoveyeva, the greatest potential for investment is in rare white stones over 2 carats with high characteristics of color and clarity. Another options are yellow and pink diamonds, regardless of saturation, color and size. Fancy shapes are more influenced by fashion, but now there is also interest in pears, ovals and radiants. Fancy-colored diamonds have high investment potential due to their rarity. According to ADE, the ruble yield on pink diamonds since 2020 was 53%, yellow - 54%, blue - 46%.
The company's analysts predict further growth in investment diamonds segment, determined by the rarity and the growth dynamics of the European luxury goods market, which at the end of last year increased by 8% - 10% and reached a record volume of 1.5 trillion euros.
The participants in the discussion noted the advantages of such investments: the possibility of a buyback; a law that does not require the transfer of ownership of them; diamonds as an alternative to foreign currency savings.
The ADE program provides for limited participation in auctions among professional jewelers to create unique stones. This opportunity is often used by buyers to order jewelry in the company's store. Thus, as noted in the conclusion of the discussion, diamonds become “a reliable and universal investment not only in the future, but also in beauty.”
