Diamond market crash is Africa’s opportunity, not its crisis – M'zée Fula Ngenge

Global natural diamond supply is forecast to fall below 95 million carats this year, the lowest since 1987. For Dr. M'zée Fula Ngenge, chairperson of the African Diamond Council (ADC), this is not a death knell but a clarion call. In an exclusive...

Aterian expands copper footprint at Azrar project in Morocco

Today

Aterian has identified multiple copper showings and substantially expanded the known mineralisation footprint at the Amane Target of its 85%-owned Azrar Copper-Silver project in Morocco, following initial exploration fieldwork.

The work programme is fully funded through the company’s AI joint venture with Lithosquare SAS.

Initial mapping of four of twenty-two planned traverses has identified copper showings over an apparent 1.60 kilometre strike length within the now 2.50 kilometre long Amane Target.

New stratabound copper showings have been identified, with mineralised exposures having apparent thicknesses ranging from up to approximately seven metres at Amane West and two metres at Amane North.

Historic workings associated with visible copper mineralisation have also been identified.

Access preparation and logistical works have been initiated ahead of anticipated scout drilling in the fourth quarter of 2026. Hyperspectral data acquisition, processing, and drill target generation are ongoing.

“The initial mapping results strengthen Azrar’s exploration potential by expanding the known copper mineralisation footprint at Amane and identifying multiple copper showings, including in previously unexplored areas,” said company executive chairperson Charles Bray.

He said that mapping of only four of the planned traverses has identified copper showings over the 1.60 kilometre strike, and that locally mineralisation has an apparent thickness of up to seven metres.

“These results are highly encouraging, although the continuity and full extent of the mineralisation remain to be determined,” said Bray.

Further traverse mapping will seek to extend the mineralised footprint before detailed mapping, sampling, and target prioritisation. The company is also engaging with local drilling contractors ahead of scout drilling in the fourth quarter of 2026.

The field programme has four principal objectives: improving access to the Amane Target, undertaking detailed mapping and a topographic survey over an initial drill target, mapping approximately twenty-two traverses totalling 8.20 line kilometres across prospective basal Adoudou Formation sediments, and engaging with local stakeholders ahead of drilling.

Aterian holds an 85% interest in the 76.9 square kilometre Azrar project in Morocco’s Western Anti-Atlas, with Lithosquare holding 15%.
