The 3rd Geology and Mine Surveying Forum, organized by Nornickel, has kicked off in Norilsk. The event continues to grow in scope, this year bringing together representatives from universities, equipment suppliers, design teams, mining companies, and industry stakeholders.
The forum’s primary objective is to foster the advancement in geology, mine surveying, and the mining sector as a whole by facilitating the exchange of expertise and the collaborative development of approaches for safe and efficient operations.
The business program and exhibition area showcase cutting-edge developments, including mobile LiDAR systems, SLAM scanners, drones, laser measurement suites, and specialized software for geological and mine surveying support. Key partners and suppliers of Nornickel are presenting their latest products.
Andrey Karpuzov, Director of Nornickel’s Mineral Resources Department, noted that the industry is currently undergoing a major transformation, characterized by the adoption of digital tools, laser scanning technologies, unmanned systems, and innovative methods for managing geological data. Progress, he emphasized, relies on close cooperation between technology developers, production teams, and the specialists responsible for implementing these solutions in mining operations.
At the conclusion of the two-day program, participants will review the outcomes of a hackathon, discuss their findings, and formulate practical recommendations designed to drive industry development and facilitate the scaling of new solutions across production sites.
