Jewellery and watch sales in Hong Kong up 20% in September

Yesterday

Sales of jewellery, watches, and valuable gifts in Hong Kong increased by 20.3% in September compared to the same period of last year. This figure significantly outpaced the growth rate of the overall retail market, signalling a continued recovery in consumer spending across the district.

According to data from the Hong Kong Census and Statistics Department, sales in value terms reached HKD 4.706 billion ($603 million), while sales in volume terms grew by 7%.

The growth in September follows year-on-year increases of 20.1% in June and 19.7% in July, while the growth rate slowed to 11.9% in August. The latest figures indicate a renewed acceleration following the August dip.

For the first nine months of 2026, sales in value terms rose by 22.4% year-on-year, totalling HKD 45.82 billion ($5.87 billion), while sales in volume terms increased by 6.8%.

Total retail sales in September grew by 6.4% in value terms and 3.9% in volume terms. For the period from January through September, total sales increased by 8.3% in value terms and 5.9% in volume terms.

The Department noted that sales growth was recorded across many retail segments, reflecting strong consumer sentiment among the local population. A government spokesperson added that the Mid-Autumn Festival also contributed to an increase in the number of visitors and a rise in product sales.

The recovery of the retail sector in Hong Kong has continued for 17 consecutive months; the government expects that further economic growth, rising household incomes, the hosting of major events, and the development of tourism will contribute to continued growth in consumer spending.
