Gem Resources appoints Robert Nigel Chapman as CEO, Bernard Olivier moves to non-executive role

Yesterday

LSE-listed Gem Resources has appointed Robert Nigel Chapman as chief executive and executive director, effective November 6.

Chapman succeeds Dr Bernard Olivier, who is stepping down to focus on other business interests.

Olivier will remain on the board as a non-executive director and will not be considered independent under the UK Corporate Governance Code.

The company described the move as a planned and mutually agreed transition that preserves continuity and retains Olivier’s industry expertise.

Executive chairperson Louis Ching welcomed Chapman, citing his more than three decades of international experience in mineral exploration, project development, and mining operations.

Chapman, who has worked extensively in South America since 2014, said he will focus on applying sound technical judgement, operational experience, and commercial discipline to build a sustainable, revenue-generating business.

He said he looks forward to advancing Gem Resources' strategy, particularly the proposed acquisition of the El Yarumo gold processing operation in Colombia, which remains subject to conditions, and identifying further opportunities in the natural resources sector.
