Russia completed its chairmanship of the Kimberley Process (KP) at the final plenary meeting held in Moscow on November 8-12 in an in-person and online formats. 116 delegates attended, and another 390 connected online, which became an absolute record for the number of participants in the entire history of KP plenary sessions. Zimbabwe will take over as KP vice chairman in 2022 and chairman in 2023.

Tharisa extends open-pit production to 2041

Tharisa Minerals has extended the open pit Life of Mine (LOM) at its flagship Tharisa Mine in South Africa's North West province, following an annual review of its Mineral Resource and Mineral Reserve statement. It said the open-pit chrome and platinum group metals (PGMs) mine will be extended by seven years to 2041.

Miner Rio Tinto has become the sole owner of Diavik Diamond Mine in the Northwest Territories of Canada, continuing its leading role in the Canadian diamond industry, as per a press release from Rio Tinto. Rio Tinto has announced that a transaction has been completed for Rio Tinto’s acquisition of the 40 per cent share held by Dominion Diamond Mines in Diavik, following the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta’s approval.
Namdia wants to buy 50% of Namdeb diamond output

State-owned Namibia Desert Diamond Company (Namdia) wants to buy up to 50% of Namdeb Holdings' annual diamond output, according to local media reports. Under the current sales agreement with De Beers, Namdia is only allowed to buy 15% of Namdeb's production.

Tietto secures $140 mln to develop Côte d’Ivoire gold project

Gold developer and explorer Tietto Minerals has secured up to $140 million in debt funding to develop its Abujar gold project in Côte d’Ivoire, West Africa. Company managing director Caigen Wang said securing the financing with Taurus Mining Finance Fund will provide project certainty for shareholders.
