The Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation revealed many violations in the activities of gold miners in Buryatia, the Trans-Baikal Territory and the Amur Region, risk-news.ru reported.
According to the agency, enterprises do not comply with legislation, in particular environmental protection, when carrying out geological exploration, development of gold deposits and its extraction.
"The technologies currently used for the extraction of placer gold are not nature-saving. They are often accompanied by changes in riverbeds and coastal landscape, discharge into water bodies of washing waters containing suspended particles of clay, sand and chemicals, degradation of the ecosystem," the Prosecutor General's Office reported.
The Prosecutor General of Russia Igor Krasnov ordered additional inspections of gold mining enterprises located in the main centers of precious metal extraction this year. Based on the results, exhaustive measures of the prosecutor's response will be taken.
