Andrey Grachev, Vice President for Federal and Regional Programs at Norilsk Nickel, speaking at a conference following the results of the Great Scientific Expedition, emphasized that the company is clearly aware of the need for scientific research in the Arctic. “Therefore, three years ago, when we met with Academician Parmon and talked, the idea arose to conduct a comprehensive study of the environment,” he said, saying that 14 institutions participated in the first such study and the report was included in the White Paper.
Noting the importance of the latest scientific expedition in terms of studying biodiversity, the vice-president of the company emphasized that at one time the company came to the conclusion that in order to conduct business in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation, fundamental science should be involved.
Speaking about Norilsk Nickel's activities to study and preserve biodiversity in the Arctic, Andrey Grachev said that the company considers this one of its most important principles for managing the Arctic zone, and added that "all this is our conscious desire and important mission, part of the company's strategy in within the framework of sustainable development”.
