Norilsk continues to implement the Sulfur Program – the largest environmental project of Norilsk Nickel, which has no analogues in the world in terms of scale, the Northern City media company reported.
At the end of this year, it is planned to complete the first stage, which involves the creation of a production facility for the disposal of waste gases at the Nadezhdinsky Metallurgical Plant and a significant reduction in sulfur dioxide emissions.
After the launch of the Sulfur Program the company is expected to reduce sulfur dioxide emissions by 45%. And after the implementation of the second stage, it is planned to dispose of up to 90% of sulfur dioxide in waste gases at the company's Copper Plant.
