ALROSA innovations distinguished by Ministry of Industry and Trade

04 july 2023

ALROSA's significant contribution to the development of Russia's innovative solutions earned a distinction of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation. The company received a letter of thanks from the ministry after winning the Federal Prize in the field of corporate innovation.

The project that won in the Power of Cooperation competition involved the use of air purification systems for mining equipment cabins in ALROSA's production processes. In the area of quarries where diamond ore is mined, excessive gas pollution accumulates in winter season, which impedes the normal mining equipment operators. To reduce the risk to the health of workers, joint efforts of specialists from the Aikhal Mining and Processing Plant and the ALROSA Center for Innovation and Technology, in close cooperation with Roskhimzashchita Corporation JSC (a subsidiary of Russian Technologies State Corporation), developed a special air purification system that is installed on the roof of mining dump truck cabs , excavators and other mining equipment. A significant contribution to the project was also made by small innovative enterprises that are subsidiaries of Russian universities.

In 2021-2022, an air purification system was installed on the equipment at the Jubilee mine. By mid-2022, investments in the project fully paid off and now they continue to add a significant economic benefit to last in the coming years. The developed technology is one-of-a-kind and can significantly reduce open pit mining downtime due to gas pollution while improving safety conditions for excavator, dump truck and other open pit equipment operators.
