Norilsk Nickel's Bystrinsky Mining and Processing Plant increases industrial safety thanks to artificial intelligence (AI).
Artificial intelligence continuously monitors the availability of workwear: a protective helmet with the mandatory use of a chin strap, safety glasses and other personal protective equipment in use, the press service of Norilsk Nickel reports.
Currently, the company's specialists are implementing technology for recognizing and fixing the use of a safety harness when performing work at height. This is designed to help protect people at production facilities, prevent accidents and save the life and health of employees.
If the rules of labor protection are not followed, the AI will form a violation card. After the disciplinary decision is approved, the line manager will conduct a behavioral security audit with the employee.
"The solution for video analytics of personal protective equipment – the development by the IT team of Norilsk Nickel – is already functioning at a number of enterprises of the Polar branch and at the Kola MMC. However, the employee face identification module, the so-called Face ID, was integrated for the first time at the Bystrinsky GOK site. Despite all the technical difficulties, we have successfully adapted the facial recognition solution to our platform, and the pilot results have already shown high efficiency," said Alexander Krupin, Head of the Digital Technologies Department at Norilsk Nickel.
The company terminates labor relations with persistent violators of Cardinal Safety Rules.
