An environmental campaign organized to clean up the Arctic territories

25 august 2023

Gazprom Dobycha Nadym has provided financial assistance to the Russian Arctic Development Center in organizing an eco-expedition. Its goal is to restore the territories of the Arctic, disturbed by the economic activities of past generations.

As reported by akm.ru, this year, eco-cleaning took place on the territory of Marresal, one of the oldest polar stations in the world, which is located on Cape Marre-Sale in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District.

In two weeks the volunteers removed 1,722 two-hundred-liter barrels, collected 22 tons of scrap metal, 3 tons of spent fuels and lubricants and 1.5 tons of lime.

As part of the ecological expedition its participants cleared the territory with a total area of 3.5 hectares, said Ivan Nasai, head of the Department for Coordinating scientific activities of the Russian Arctic Development Center.

Ecological "landing force" worked on the territory of the hydrometeorological station Marresal for the second year in a row. A total of 3,250 barrels and 44 tons of waste were collected and prepared for disposal during this time.
