A new generation of explosives used at the Zapolyarny mine

29 august 2023

Emulsion explosives were used for drilling and blasting operations at the Zapolyarny underground mine for the first time.

This new hi-tech explosive substance was offered to the Norilsk miners by the Ural specialized enterprise NIPIGORMASH, ttelegraf.ru reported.

Emulsion explosives are currently considered the most modern type for drilling and blasting operations in mine production. The uniqueness of the emulsion is that it can be charged from a remote control with guaranteed absence of personnel in the danger zone.

Another factor is the safety of transportation, since the explosives themselves are prepared on the spot. In addition, emulsion explosives do not emit a large amount of chemical odors and toxic gases after blast.

According to the test results, the management of Norilsk Nickel is now considering expanding the scope of application of emulsion explosives. It is possible that a new explosive will soon appear in the mine workings of all the company's mines in Talnakh.
