The first fire-fighting exercises held at the Norilsk Norilsk eco-project

08 september 2023

Large-scale fire-fighting exercises were conducted by employees of the Sulfur Program of the Nadezhda Metallurgical Plant, the press service of Norilsk Nickel reported.

About 40 working personnel and 19 specialists of the Emergency Response and Rescue Operations Center of the Fire Safety Department of the Polar Branch of Norilsk Nickel took part in the exercises.

At the first exercises, the fire protection units successfully worked out regular interaction with the staff. The elimination of conditional fires and evacuation were carried out at short notice.

The overall assessment of the conducted trainings is satisfactory, they will be conducted on an ongoing basis, in accordance with annual schedules, said Yuri Yermolaev, Acting Chief engineer of the Fire Safety Department of the Center for Emergency Response and Rescue Operations of the Polar Branch of Norilsk Nickel.

"Evacuation schemes have been developed for each workshop, according to which personnel will be able to leave the danger zone from any point of the enterprise. The process of operation of a large number of giant units of the Sulfur Program will be controlled by a minimum number of staff and remotely from the control room. So the high–tech and automated Sulfur program of the Norilsk Nickel company is another step on the way to a staff-free, and therefore safe production," said Mikhail Bogdanov, deputy head of the sulfuric acid production and neutralization department of the Nadezhda Metallurgical Plant.
