More than 10,000 people took part in environmental events in the Murmansk region

26 october 2023

More than 10,000 people participated in environmental events in the Murmansk region, the governor of the region Andrey Chibis said.

"The list of annual environmental activities includes the clean-up days "Green Spring" and "Green Russia", the All-Russian campaign to collect waste paper, as well as the events "Garden of Memory", "Save the Forest". This year, more than 10,000 people took part in the events and collected more than 900 cubic meters of garbage on an area of 161 hectares, cleaned the coastline with a length of more than 52 kilometers, planted more than 18,000 trees and shrubs," Chibis said.

According to him, a number of large-scale environmental projects are being implemented in the Murmansk Region today: the national project "Ecology", the federal project "Clean Arctic", the strategic plan "To live in the North".

13 unauthorized landfills have been liquidated directly within the framework of the Clean Arctic project. At the moment, 2.8 million cubic meters of garbage have been disposed of at the largest solid waste dump in Murmansk beyond the Arctic Circle.

The reclamation of the landfill in Zaozersk is also continuing and the Kola Bay is being cleaned of sunken objects, according to the web portal of the regional government.
