ALROSA spent more than 130 million rubles on environmental protection in Yakutia

This year, the Russian diamond mining company ALROSA has increased spending on biological diversity preservation and environmental protection in Yakutia.

According to Polina Anisimova, the company’s chief ecologist, quoted by TASS, the company’s expenses for these purposes have tripled and amounted to more than 130 million rubles.

ALROSA is implementing environmental initiatives in accordance with a comprehensive program for environmental protection and safety for 2019-2023.

“One of the important areas of the program is the protection of natural areas, conservation and replenishment of biological diversity. In 2023, the company allocated more than 130 million rubles for these purposes. This is three times more than a year earlier,” Anisimova said.

The main areas of the company’s work include monitoring and protecting the Leno-Olenek population of wild reindeer, monitoring the Red Book species of the lesser white-fronted goose, stocking rivers and lakes with valuable fish species, reforestation, research work in the field of biodiversity, as well as supporting state-protected areas.
