Activists of the Russian Geographical Society collected and removed 200 tons of industrial waste from the coast of the Khatanga River, which flows on the island of Taimyr in the Arctic.

The work was carried out jointly with the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. In total, 13 joint research expeditions were organized this year, the results of which were reported at a meeting of the coordinating council, which was attended by representatives of the Russian Geographical Society and the Ministry of Defense.

"Through the joint efforts unique research has been conducted this year in the Arctic and Far Eastern regions of Russia, on the outer islands of the Gulf of Finland, on the islands of the Kuril Ridge, and a number of other meaningful scientific and exploratory events," said Russian Deputy Defense Minister Nikolai Pankov.
