The potential for green hydrogen production in the Far Northeast of Russia is 2.1 billion tons, TASS quoted Evgeniy Glotov, chief researcher at the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, as saying.
In his opinion, the most promising area from this point of view is the upper reaches of the Kolyma River basin.
“The inland Arctic and subarctic regions of the extreme Northeast, and possibly the entire Eastern Siberia, are very promising for the production of green hydrogen using solar radiation and wind energy, and resources of low-mineralized surface water and groundwater,” Glotov said.
The researcher calculated that, taking into account the existing engineering-geological and environmental situations, using no more than 10% of the volume of ultra-fresh waterflow, it is possible to obtain 2.1 billion tons of hydrogen, including 1.28 billion tons through the use of solar energy.
