Islands in the Arctic began to rise above the water level due to the melting of ice domes which used to put pressure on them, said Alexander Kirilov, director of the Russian Arctic National Park.
"The ice dome, which is located on the island, exerts a lot of pressure. The mass of ice is a heavy thing. Due to climate change, the ice dome is getting smaller, and the islands have begun to rise. There is nothing to be concerned about, it is a natural process that the Earth has been going through for many billions of years," the expert explained in an interview with 360 TV channel.
At the same time, he noted that the Earth was going through different climatic periods: droughts, floods, glaciers that reached the equator, but each time nature adapted to new conditions.
