Traveling by train along the most popular routes generates less than half of the carbon dioxide emissions than using an electric car with a rechargeable battery.
The British railway company Rail Delivery Group came to this conclusion while conducting its study in the matter.
According to the company, traveling by train from Edinburgh to London leads to significantly lower CO2 emissions compared to traveling by electric car. Nevertheless, travel by rail is comparable in cost to the price of a trip on wheeled transport.
"After the pandemic, the number of business trips decreased significantly, which prompted an increase in online meetings and video conferences. However, regardless of this, the use of rail transport remains a greener choice," said Jacqueline Starr, Executive Director of RDG.
