The seventh international scientific and practical conference "The Universe of the Polar Bear" takes place on March 19-21 at the Skolkovo Innovation Center in Moscow, and in Anadyr.
Following the results of the forum, it is planned to create a permanent international expert platform for regular dialogue between representatives of interested government authorities, the business and scientific community on issues of Arctic biological diversity.
It is also planned to sign a declaration of intent by the participants on the conservation of the polar bear in the Russian Federation, the press service of the Russian Natural Reserve Center of the Ministry of Natural Resources reports.
The conference participants will discuss the following topics: conservation of the bear as an indicator of the state of Arctic ecosystems in the new conditions of development of the Northern Sea Route; ensuring environmental safety in the Arctic as an element of national security; balance of biodiversity conservation and economic development; the results of the meeting of the states of the 1973 intergovernmental agreement on the conservation of the polar bear; monitoring of the state of the environment in the Arctic and the Northern Sea Route; and waste cleaning activities in the Arctic.
In 2023, Kazakhstan and China became international participants of the conference, but this year their number will increase thanks to BRICS countries and the countries of the polar bear range, TASS reports.
