The Chukchi-Alaskan polar bear population reached 3,000 individual animals, including 864 on Wrangel Island and 180 on the Bear Islands in Yakutia, said Vladimir Chernook, head of the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute "Ecology".

The number of polar bears has increased by more than 1.5 times in two years. The bears were counted literally over their heads with the help of Orlan unmanned aerial vehicles. Data processing was partially carried out using artificial intelligence.

In Chukotka, there is a federal and district polar bear protection program.
