Plastic waste has a negative impact on the polar bear population, said Veronika Tarbayeva, an expert at the Arctic Development Project Office.
"We have to acknowledge that plastic waste from landfills has also appeared in the diet of the polar bear. The consequences are disappointing: individual animals become smaller, females bring fewer cubs," the expert said.
According to her, today the polar bear population in the Arctic is also under pressure due to poaching and the problem of reducing the size of ice fields that serve as their hunting grounds, murmansk.mk.ru reports.
