The meeting was held in an expanded format with the participation of new countries that have entered into multilateral cooperation since January 1, 2024.

Russia's proposal to create a new platform for discussing climate change issues within the framework of the BRICS was approved by the participating countries.

For his part, Nikita Kondratiev, Director of the Department of Multilateral Economic Cooperation and Special Projects of the Ministry of Economic Development, noted the importance of developing cooperation within BRICS on sustainable development issues, taking into account the decarbonization risks.

The meeting presented Russia's priorities in the field of climate cooperation in 2024, including a fair energy transition, adaptation to climate change and the development of carbon markets. The initiatives aroused great interest among the participants of the meeting, especially in the field of sharing experiences on the development of carbon markets and the implementation of adaptation measures.

It was also proposed to strengthen scientific climate cooperation through the launch of the BRICS climate research platform.
